Soekarno’s daughter, Sukmawati Soekarnoputri, will perform the ritual of converting from Islam to Hinduism in Bali.
The religious conversion ritual will be held at the Sukarno Center Heritage Area in Bale Agung Singaraja, Buleleng Regency, Bali, Tuesday (26/10). The location is the ancestral place of Bung Karno’s mother, Nyoman Rai Sirimben.
Confirmation of Sukmawati Soekarnoputri
“Yes, that’s right. The event will be in Bali on October 26, 2021, next Sunday,” said Arya Wedakarna, Head of the Sukarno Center in Bali Arya Wedakarna and person in charge of the event, when contacted Friday (22/10).
Arya said Sukmawati’s conversion from Islam to Hinduism was interpreted as a return to her ancestral religion. This is because Sukmawati’s grandmother, Ida Ayu Nyiman Rai Srimben, is a Hindu native of Singaraja, Buleleng Regency, Bali.

“Because her grandmother Nyoman Rai Srimben from Singaraja is also a Hindu. So, she (Sukmawati Soekarnoputri) also wants her place not in Jakarta but in Bali. However, in Bali, the Great Hall is the place of her ancestors, namely Bung Karno’s mother, Nyoman Rai Sirimben,” Arya said.
Arya explained that Sukmawati’s conversion to Hinduism had gone through a long process. Previously, Sukmawati Soekarnoputri was said to have frequent discussions with priests, monks and religious leaders and liked to read Hindu scriptures.

Decision had gone through a family approval process
Not only that, Arya also revealed that Sukmawati Soekarnoputri’s conversion to Islam to Hinduism had gone through a family approval process, starting from her sons and daughters to her brothers and sisters such as Megawati Soekarnoputri and Guntur Soekarnoputra.
“I am a witness to his struggle. Seeing him, it seems like all this time he likes Hinduism, with Bali. Always asks to come to Pura, for decades and likes to read Hindu scriptures. Likes to discuss with monks and priests , our holder,” said Arya.
Arya said that Sukmawati had also been appointed directly by Sukmawati Soekarnoputri to help arrange the Sudhi Wadhani ceremony, namely the inauguration ceremony and ratification of the words or promises of someone who is sincerely sincere and with a pure heart to profess to embrace Hinduism.
“So, we help and the preparations are good and later it’s just a matter of implementation. However, in principle, we will rename the Sudhi Wadhani ceremony to Hinduism,” said Arya.
