Madhuvan – Sacred land of Hinduism

There is a town called Maholi in Madhuvan, four or five miles southwest of Mathura, where Shatrughnaji had built Madhupuri by breaking down the Madhudaitya fort, which later came to be called Mathura. Today there is such a gap between this and Mathura, this distance may have come here, before Mathura has spread there. Next to Maholi is Talwan or Tarsigam, where Balaramji killed Dhenukasur. Next to him is Kumudavan or Satohgaon, there is Shantanukund and the temples of Shantanu and Baldevji. People who want to have children come to bathe in Shantanukund.

In front of Satohe is Bahulawan in Wadhigam, there is a Krishna Kund and a Bahlagai temple. Next to him is Toshajarivan or Mukharaigam. Tosh was a friend of God, this town is named after him. Next to him are Radhakunda and Krishnakunda. When Lord Krishna killed Arishtasur, the gopis told the Lord that he had started killing the bull, so he should be pure by staying on a pilgrimage.

On this, Shri Radha and Shri Krishna dug the earth with their hands and drew water and thus they became two pools, then the Lord bathed in Radhakund. The place where Arishtasur was killed became Arishtagam, which is now called Ading.

Madhuvan was a forest located near Madhupuri or Mathura, whose lord was a demon named Madhu. Madhu’s son, Lavanasura, was conquered by the son of King Dasaratha of Ayodhya and Shatrughna, brother of Sri Rama. Located about three and a half miles southwest of Mathura, this village is situated at the Madhupuri place mentioned in Valmiki Ramayana.

Madhupuri was built by a giant named Madhu. His son Lavanasura was defeated and killed by Shatrughan in battle and founded the new city of Mathura in place of Madhupuri. The village of Maholi is now called Madhuvan-Maholi. Maholi is the Apabhramsa of Madhupuri himself. An idol of Gautama Buddha was found in this town about 100 years ago. In this work of art, the Lord is shown in the supreme state. This is the mark of his condition at that time, after six years of rigorous penance at Bodh Gaya, only the sharpanjan of his body remained.
