Sri Ranganatha Ashtakam was composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya Bhagavatpada when Bhagavatpada was travelling across India for their spiritual journey. When Bhagavatpada reached the Sri Ranganatha Temple in Srirangam he was overwhelmed by the purity and heavenly form of the idol and fell in love with the beauty of Sri Ranganatha god.

आनन्दरूपे निजबोधरूपे ब्रह्मस्वरूपे श्रुतिमूर्तिरूपे ।
शशाङ्करूपे रमणीयरूपे श्रीरङ्गरूपे रमतां मनो मे ॥१॥
Transliteration
ānandarūpe nijabodharūpe brahmasvarūpe śrutimūrtirūpe ।
śaśāṅkarūpe ramaṇīyarūpe śrīraṅgarūpe ramatāṃ mano me ॥1॥
English Translate
(My brain excites in the heavenly form of sri Ranganatha) That structure (resting on Adisesha) imbibed in ecstasy (Anand Rupa), and immersed in his Own self (Nija Bodha Rupa); That Form expressing the core of Brahman (Brahma Svarupa) and the core of all the Shrutis (Vedas) (Shruti Murti Rupa),
That Form calm like the Moon (Shashanka Rupa) and having elegant beauty (Ramaniya Rupa);
My brain excites in the heavenly form of sri Ranganatha (That From fills my existence with elation)

English Translate
(My heart delights in the transcendental plays of Sri Ranganatha) His plays, which shower compassion on the banks of the river Kaveri (just like its gentle waves); His plays taking beautiful game form at the root of the Mandara tree,
Plays of their incarnations slaying the demons in all the worlds (samsaras); My mind delights in the transcendental plays of Sri Ranga (Sri Ranganatha) (those plays fill my existence with joy).

English Translate
(My mind is pleased in the various dhams of Sri Ranganatha) That His abode with Goddess Lakshmi (in Vaikuntha), His abode among all beings in this world (in temples), His abode within the lotus lotus heart of devotees (as Divine Consciousness), and His abode within the orbit of the Sun (the Sun representing the image of the Divine),
He abides in the works of compassion, and he dwells within the transcendent qualities; My mind rejoices in the various abodes of Sri Rang (Sri Ranganatha) (those abodes fill my existence with bliss).

(My heart is pleased in the worship of Sri Ranganatha) Worship performed by Lord Brahma and other (gods); Worshiped by the devotees (receiving Him) as the only Lord of the universe; Worship performed by Sri Mukunda and worshiped by the head of the suras (ie Indra Dev),

English Translate
(My mind is pleased in the auspicious divine dream of Sri Ranganatha) That unshakable relaxation posture (which nothing can disturb), that perfect sleep (that which is full of fullness), that auspicious yoga nidra (that which is completely self – is absorbed), (and) he poses gold over the galaxy (and controls everything),
That posture of relaxation (in the universe) and the only source of a great dream that (relaxation in the midst of all activities and) finally absorbs the universe,
My mind rejoices in the auspicious divine dream of Sri Ranga (Sri Ranganatha) (that auspicious divine dream fills my existence with joy).

(My mind is pleased in the auspicious resting posture of Sri Ranganatha) That resting posture adorned with various (clothes and ornaments); He rests on the king of snakes (ie Adishesha); He rests in the lap of Nanda Gopa (and Yashoda); She rests in the lap of Goddess Lakshmi,
That pose of rest on the milky ocean; (y) resting posture on a banyan leaf; My mind rejoices in the auspicious relaxation postures of Sri Ranga (Shri Ranganatha) (those auspicious relaxation postures fill my existence with joy).

इदं हि रङ्गं त्यजतामिहाङ्गं पुनर्न चाङ्गं यदि चाङ्गमेति ।
पाणौ रथाङ्गं चरणेऽम्बु गाङ्गं याने विहङ्गं शयने भुजङ्गम् ॥८॥
Transliteration
idaṃ hi raṅgaṃ tyajatāmihāṅgaṃ punarna cāṅgaṃ yadi cāṅgameti ।
pāṇau rathāṅgaṃ caraṇe’mbu gāṅgaṃ yāne vihaṅgaṃ śayane bhujaṅgam ॥8॥
English Translate
This is actually Ranga (Srirangam), where if one takes off his body, he will not come back with the body (i.e., he will not be born again), if that body had gone to the Lord (i.e., he took refuge) in the Lord),
(Sri Ranganatha ki Jai) One who holds a wheel in his hand, from whose lotus feet the river Ganga rises, who travels in his bird vehicle (Garuda); (and) one who sleeps on the bed of the serpent (Sri Ranganatha ki Jai).

Transliteration
raṅganāthāṣṭakampuṇyaṃ prātarutthāya yaḥ paṭhet ।
sarvān kāmānavāpnoti raṅgisāyujyamāpnuyāt ॥9॥
English Translate
This Ranganathastakam, which is auspicious, is recited early in the morning,
May all your wishes come true; (And in the end) he reaches (and becomes free) the Sayujya of Sri Ranganatha (absorbed in the essence of Sri Ranganatha).
