Brahmananda Sivayogi – The Saint and Social Reformer

Brahmananda Swami Sivayogi is a saint, social reformer and rationalist from Kerala. His works have been translated into English and Hindi to meet the demands of northern India. Demand was huge and thousands of copies of his works were sold in different parts of Kerala.

Brahmananda Swami Sivayogi studied logic and philosophy, compared the teachings of different religions and found the eternal truth. After discovering this truth, he began to spread it through religious discourses, seminars, letters and books. His main goal was to enlighten people, to teach them, and to free them from superstition and ignorance.

Brahmananda Sivayogi – Early Life

Brahmananda Swami Sivayogi ( 26 August 1852 — 10- September 1929), also known as Alathur Shivayogi or Alathurs Swami of Sanyasi, also from Kerala, India founded Ananda Maha Sabha in 1918. He was also called Brahmananda Swamikal and was recognized by Dr. Ayyathan Gopalan for his spiritual and literary knowledge, a social reformer, leader and propagandist of the Brahmo Samaj in Kerala and founder of the Sugunavardhini movement. SIVAYOGI was founded in Ananda Maha Sabha and was born on August 26, 1852.

His Works and Ideas

Brahmananda Shivayogi was a practitioner and an advocate of the idea of Ananda Matham. His reformist ideas are detailed in his work entitled Mokshapradeepam Anandasutram. Founder of Sidhasramam and advocate of the ideas of Anandajaathi.

Govindan Kutty took information from various sources and was fluent in Hindu scripture and the Tamil language. The movement he led played an important role in Kerala’s Reformation movement.

After learning of Govindan Kutty’s brilliance, his father sent him to Ernakulam to receive a high school education in English and media. While working in Kozhikode, he interacted with and learned from people with similar views. While interacting with different people, he got to know other religions.

As a leader of the Renaissance, he emphasized the importance of education, especially women in education. The Author of some of the most influential books of modern Indian literature.

It would be bad for any religion to deprive everyone of the chance to enjoy happiness, freedom and liberation from bondage and misery.
